The new features are profound in some ways and in others, barely perceptible. What makes it different from FIFA 13? What makes it better? In what ways is it new or improved? Beyond the crib sheet of defined upgrades - and there are a lot, ranging from an easier way to perform skill moves to the "pull and hold" (or rather, the Tony Pulis) mode of improved defending - there's a lot to take in. It's got more than enough quality to keep you playing right up to the release of FIFA 15, 16 or 2029. It was too easy to fire up the Xbox, dive headlong into a random season, career mode, one-off game or FIFA "ultimate team" session and catch myself days later, fingers unable to release the controller.Īs I look back on the experience so far - and I can't wait to play online with you all starting right now - I can say that no one will be disappointed. Since I received my copy last week, it was too easy to jettison regular responsibilities (it is at this point that I'd like to apologize to my ESPN colleagues), snub the outside world and get lost in the game. It's also the guilty party in what feels like my lost weekend. It possesses addictive multitudes in its unassuming box with Lionel Messi on the cover. It is a driver of commerce and a cultural cornerstone. If you are even vaguely aware of the beautiful game, you're aware of the FIFA video game franchise. I'm a sucker for this style of map in roguelites, and it's implemented excellently here. As they travel, your heroes may bicker, making the whole endeavor more unpleasant for everyone. Do you offer aid to the hapless denizens beseeching your kindness, or do you simply take all their stuff? Wait, you said something about a stagecoach? Yep. Voice actor Wayne June's deep, mournful narration is back and excellent as ever. The 2D-illustrated characters of the original have been replaced with 3D models-an excellent upgrade-but the general tone of the game is the same, just with improved visuals across the board. The world of Darkest Dungeon 2 is grim and brutal, with pestilent Lovecraftian horrors teaming up with horrific beasts and crazed cultists to pummel you into submission. Returning is the excellent combat and unmatched gothic fantasy aesthetic from the first game.
